| Career Banding is a new classification and compensation system for North Carolina State Government jobs performing similar kinds of work with similar knowledge, skills and ability (KSA) requirements – also known as competencies – which are organized into broad classifications with wide pay ranges. Pay ranges and rates are based on current labor market information. As funding allows, pay is tied to these rates according to the competency levels that are needed and demonstrated on the job.
Career Banding recognizes employees for the depth, breadth, and types of knowledge, skills, abilities and behaviors that they obtain and apply in their work. These competencies are observable and measurable behaviors, which include attributes that contribute to success on the job.
