A CHICKEN IN EVERY POT – OR PERHAPS A HORSE OR COW FOR YOUR DEN?
RALEIGH – In a different time of economic uncertainly, some 80 years ago, a presidential hopeful pledged a time of future prosperity by promising “a chicken in every pot.” Herbert Hoover’s idealized view of American success wasn’t realized quickly, but who’s to say that a 6½ -foot-tall plaster chicken, or perhaps a life-size horse or a cow, might improve your outlook today?
Crafted by local high school groups for a 2008 N.C. State Fair art contest, pieces in this folk-art menagerie are available to interested bidders until 1 p.m. Jan. 19 through the State Surplus Property Agency.
“They need some work, but someone with a creative eye could really do something special with these,” said State Surplus Property Officer Robert Riddle. “I could easily imagine them in a restaurant or someone’s rec room.”
Bidding will close at 1 p.m. Jan. 19 and will be awarded soon after. The objects are on display during business hours at the Surplus Property Warehouse, 6501 Chapel Hill Road (Hwy. 54 West) in Raleigh. To view the bids online, visit https://www.ncstatesurplus.com/SSP-SealedBid , and then select 1/19/2010 for the “open date.” Photos also are posted on the N.C. Department of Administration’s Facebook page.
Interested bidders may register online at anytime at http://www.doa.nc.gov/ssp/electronicbidding.htm.
