Last year, I asked the employees of the Department of Administration to remember the less fortunate in our community by supporting the State Employees Combined Campaign (SECC). Your response was overwhelming: nearly 49 percent of you made a pledge, and even more participated in events like the Flu Shot Bake Sale and Chili Cook-off.

The need for financial support among charitable organizations remains high as organizations struggle to meet the needs of constituents. As chair of the 2009 Statewide Campaign, I again ask that you reach out and provide a helping hand to those in need.

The SECC carefully screened its applicants and features approved charities in this year’s Giving Guide. It also scrutinized its own operations, resulting in a leaner organization that, through reduced operating costs, will direct more resources to participating agencies.

DOA’s Campaign, which begins on August 10 and ends on September 30, continues to emphasize participation and not a specific giving amount. A pledge of any amount will boost the Department total and provide help to those who need it most.

To make participation easy, the SECC Committee will hold its third annual DOA Blitz Week from August 10-21. DOA employees who complete and turn in their SECC pledge by August 21 will receive a chance to win a $75 Gas Card. Those who make a payroll deduction pledge of at least $10 per month will receive an additional chance to win the Gas Card. The winner will be announced on August 24. Other special events will follow.
