The State Surplus Property Agency has the responsibility to sell general property that has been declared surplus by various agencies. General property may consist of, but is not limited to: office furniture, chairs desk, credenzas, bookcases, lab furniture, bulletin boards, chalk boards, dry erase boards, electronic equipment, shop equipment, automotive parts, refrigerated equipment, lawn and garden equipment, forklifts, farm equipment, lab equipment, power tools, appliances, commercial kitchen equipment, office supplies and many other items. General property is advertised using information made available to the State Surplus Property Agency by the selling agency. The State Surplus Property Agency does not verify this information and cannot be held liable for any lack of information.

  • All property is sold “AS IS – WHERE IS.”
  • All Bidders are invited and urged to inspect property prior to placing a bid.
  • Successful Bidders are responsible for loading and shipping.

How General Property May Be Purchased

Competitive Bid Process
General property is sold through a competitive bid process. Each bid advertisement is made available to the public with a Bid Opening Date and Time of Opening. Bids are opened on the published time and date and an award is made to any qualifying bidder with the highest bid.

To be more cost efficient, the State Surplus Property Agency operates a Retail Store at the warehouse location in Raleigh, NC, and has authorized the operation of Off-Site Retail Stores in several of the universities across the state. Common items declared surplus may be found at the retail stores. These items are marked for immediate cash sale. Common items selected for retail sale include, but are not limited to: office furnishings; desk, bookcases, filing cabinets, chairs, credenzas, office supplies, books, calculators, copiers, white goods, audio visual equipment, building materials, kitchen equipment, housekeeping equipment, automotive parts, etc.
