The
Center for the Prevention of School Violence serves as a resource center and
"think tank" for efforts that promote safer schools and foster positive youth
development. The Center's efforts in support of safer schools are directed at
understanding the problems of school violence and developing solutions to them.
The
Children's Defense Fund (CDF) mission is to Leave No Child Behind and to
ensure every child a Healthy Start, a Head Start, a Fair Start, a Safe Start,
and a Moral Start in life and successful passage to adulthood with the help of
caring families and communities.
The
Covenant with North Carolina's Children has members including over 150 civic
organizations, professional associations, advocacy groups and individuals who
share an interest in improving the lives of children and youth in our state
through advancing public policy.
Action for Children is a statewide, independent, non-partisan, non-profit child advocacy organization, dedicated to educating and engaging all people across the state to ensure that children are healthy, safe, well-educated and have every opportunity for success.

Summer Opportunities for Youth lists summer programs for youth, mostly
affiliated with colleges and universities in the 12th Congressional District -
including Charlotte, the Triad, Durham, and Chapel Hill.
The
Center for Health and Health Care in Schools publishes a monthly e-journal
that reports on the policies, politics and financing of health programming in
schools.
Young Workers in North Carolina, on the NC Department of Labor's website, has
information regarding the employment of youth in NC.
Reference Guide to the North Carolina Wage and Hour Act
is a NCDOL publication
provides a general summary of the N.C. Wage and Hour Act, including youth
employment guidelines for employees under age 18.
Communities In Schools champions the connection of needed community resources
with schools to help young people successfully learn, stay in school, and
prepare for life.
Freechild is a community organization located in Olympia, Washington that is
committed to engaging children and youth through radical democracy. The mission
of The Freechild Project is to advocate, inform, and celebrate social change led
by and with young people around the world.
The
Global Youth Action Network is a not-for-profit organization that act as an
incubator of global partnerships among youth organizations. OUR MISSION is to
facilitate youth participation and intergenerational partnership in global
decision-making; to support collaboration among diverse youth organizations; and
to provide tools, resources, and recognition for positive youth action.
The
Children's Scholarship
Fund
provides partial tuition assistance for low-income families to send their
children to private schools. More than 62,000 children have benefited from
scholarships across the United States as part of our mission to open the doors
of educational opportunity to families.
The
Governor's Page
Program, a year round program established in 1973, provides an opportunity
for high school students to spend a week in Raleigh and learn of the roles and
functions of state government.
