North Carolina Purchasing Officer (NCP)
Launched in 2022, the North Carolina Purchaser (NCP) pathway is geared toward individuals in the role of public procurement and consists of eight core courses and one elective course. NCP certification indicates an individual's commitment to a high standard of service and performance as a state procurement professional.
Certification Requirements
- Associate’s degree or higher in a related field from a regionally accredited institution
- Job-related experience of one or more years
- Completion of 88 hours of NCPA coursework through NCP curriculum
- Passing score of 75% or higher on the NCP certification exam

Certification Exam
- Online testing format
- 90 minutes
- 50 multiple-choice questions
- Participants granted credentials immediately upon passing exam
Recertification
Certifications granted through NCPA will remain active for five years. Certified individuals must renew with a total of 40 additional credit hours. These renewal credits can be obtained by taking additional procurement or contract management-related courses or attending procurement conferences. Applicants that meet all recertification requirements will be issued a certificate reflecting a new expiration date extending five years.
