As we continue to honor the life of our nation's 41st U.S. President, George H.W. Bush, please also join us in the observance of National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day on Friday, December 7.  Friday marks 77 years since the attack on Pearl Harbor, Hawaii during World War II, where many American men and women lost their lives or were injured on December 7, 1941.

Governor Roy Cooper has ordered all United States and North Carolina flags flown at state facilities in North Carolina be lowered to half-staff immediately in honor and remembrance of the life of our nation's 41st U.S. President, George H.W. Bush. As outlined in U.S. Code, Title 4, Chapter 1, §7, flags are to remain at half-staff for a period of 30 days. Flags will return to full-staff on December 31, 2018 at sunrise.

Governor Roy Cooper has ordered all United States and North Carolina flags at state facilities to be lowered to half-staff immediately through sunset on Saturday, November 10 to honor the victims of the shooting in Thousand Oaks, California.

Governor Roy Cooper has ordered all United States and North Carolina flags at state facilities to be lowered to half-staff immediately through sunset on Wednesday, October 31 to honor the victims of the shooting at the Tree of Life synagogue in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.  Governor Cooper shared the following statement:

Governor Roy Cooper has ordered all United States and North Carolina flags at state facilities to be lowered to half-staff at sunrise on Thursday, October 18, 2018 through sunset on Sunday, October 21, 2018 in honor of North Carolina State Highway Patrol Trooper Kevin Conner who died in the line of duty in Columbus County on Wednesday. Governor Cooper released the following statement:

Governor Roy Cooper has ordered all United States and North Carolina flags at state facilities to be lowered to half-staff until sunset Sunday, October 14 in honor of former NC House Co-speaker Richard Morgan. Morgan passed away on Wednesday, October 10. He will be laid to rest on Sunday at Faith Baptist Church in West End.  In memory of former Rep. Richard Morgan, Governor Cooper released the following statement:

Governor Roy Cooper has ordered all United States and North Carolina flags at state facilities to be lowered to half-staff from sunrise to sunset Tuesday, October 9 in honor of North Carolina Army National Guard Sergeant James Allen Slape of Morehead City, who was killed in Afghanistan on October 4, 2018.

Governor Roy Cooper has ordered all United States and North Carolina flags at state facilities to be lowered to half-staff from sunrise to sunset Monday, October 8 in honor of National Firefighters Memorial Day. This day recognizes the many firefighters who have lost their lives in the line of duty.    ###

Governor Roy Cooper today ordered all United States and North Carolina flags at state facilities to be lowered immediately to half-staff in tribute to the victims and their families of the 9-11 tragedy. Seventeen years ago, 9/11 first responders made heroic sacrifices that will live on in our hearts and minds forever. Today, we remember the thousands of innocent victims who were hurt or lost their lives, and we remember those who stepped up to help their fellow Americans. We pay tribute today to the victims and families of this tragic event. ###

In honor of the extended interment of U.S. Senator John McCain, the original flag alert issued by Governor Cooper on Monday will expand until Sunday. All United States and North Carolina flags at state facilities shall remain at half-staff until sunset September 2, 2018 in honor of the passing of military veteran and U.S. Senator John McCain of Arizona.
