The 2025 Lady Cardinal class includes students from grades 9 through 12 representing Chatham, Guilford, Hoke and Wake counties. Each student will work 40-hour weeks splitting their time between working alongside women leaders in state government and partnering with other mentees on a group project focused on artificial intelligence.

Cherokee Sheriff Detention Officer Francisco Paul Flattes was killed in the line of duty Monday. Officer Flattes was a four-year veteran of the Cherokee County Sheriff Department. 

This month recognizes the cruel acts of lynching throughout American history and memorializes the countless victims and families impacted across the state.

In commemoration of Old Glory, Governor Josh Stein declared June 14, 2025, as Flag Day. This national day of observance recognizes the adoption of the flag of the United States on June 14, 1777. All North Carolinians are encouraged to display the U.S. flag at full staff to honor our country, history, service members and veterans of the U.S. Armed Forces.

In tribute to the sacrifices of our armed services personnel, Governor Josh Stein has ordered all United States and North Carolina flags at state facilities be flown at half-staff from sunrise until 12 noon on Monday, May 26 in honor of Memorial Day. 

Established in 1969 and coordinated by DOA's Council for Women and Youth Involvement, the State of North Carolina Internship Program offers college students an opportunity to connect lessons learned in the classroom to potential career choices throughout the state.

Each year on May 15, this special day recognizes the many men and women of law enforcement who lost their lives or were injured in the line of duty.

Governor Josh Stein has declared May 5 as a Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women to show support and raise awareness on the disproportionate rate of American Indian and Alaska Native women who have disappeared or lost their lives due to acts of violence.
