Flag Alert: Lowering of the US and NC Flags to half-staff through sunset on May 15 in honor of the passing of Chief Wilbert Lee Ammons

Governor Roy Cooper today ordered all United States and North Carolina flags at state facilities to be lowered immediately to half-staff in tribute to Reverend and Coharie Indian Tribe Chief Wilbert Lee Ammons.

 Chief Ammons died May 11, 2018; the Chief of the Coharie Indian Tribe and a WWII Army veteran. He served as pastor for over 30 years at Mt. Sinia Holiness Church in Waccamaw-Siouan Indian Community of "Buck Head" and was a long-time member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion.

Please note that flags should remain at half-staff through sunset on Saturday, April 21 as funeral services for former First Lady Barbara Bush will take place on Saturday.

Governor Roy Cooper has ordered all United States and North Carolina flags at state facilities to be lowered to half-staff today, February 21, 2018 until sunset on February 23, 2018, in honor of the passing of Rev. Billy Graham.

"Billy Graham was a strong, humble, positive and passionate North Carolina man of faith who made a difference in the lives of so many," said Governor Cooper. "Rest with God, Reverend Graham."

Governor Roy Cooper has joined President Donald Trump in ordering all United States and North Carolina flags at state facilities to be lowered to half-staff today, February 15, 2018 until sunset on February 19, 2018, in honor of the victims of the school shooting in Parkland, Florida.

Governor Roy Cooper today ordered all U.S. and North Carolina flags at state facilities be lowered to half staff from sunrise to sunset on Thursday, December 7, in observance of National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day.

Flag Alert: Lowering of United States and North Carolina Flags in Honor of the Victims of the Attack in Sutherland Springs, Texas

Governor Roy Cooper has joined President Donald Trump in ordering all United States and North Carolina flags at state facilities to be lowered to half-staff tomorrow, November 7, 2017 until sunset on November 9, 2017 in memory of the victims of this tragedy.

US and NC Flags should remain at half-staff until sunset on Thursday, November 9th.

Flag Alert: Lowering of North Carolina Flags in Tribute to Maintenance Mechanic Geoffrey Howe

Gov. Roy Cooper today ordered all North Carolina state flags to be lowered to half-staff on Friday, November 3rd, from sunrise to Monday, November 6th at sunset, in tribute to the Department of Public Safety employee, Geoffrey Howe. He passed on Thursday after suffering multiple injuries while working at Pasquotank Correctional Institution on Thursday, October 12th.

Howe began his career at Pasquotank Correctional Institute just over a year ago, as a maintenance mechanic.

Flag Alert: Lowering of the NC flags to half-staff through sunset on Nov. 1 in Tribute to Correctional Officer Wendy Shannon

Gov. Roy Cooper today ordered all North Carolina state flags to be lowered to half-staff on Wednesday, November 1st, from sunrise to sunset, in tribute to the Department of Public Safety employee, Wendy Shannon.  She  passed on Monday evening after suffering multiple injuries while on duty at Pasquotank Correctional Institution on Thursday, October 12th.

Shannon began her career at Pasquotank Correctional Institute on Oct. 21, 2013 as a correctional officer.

Flag Alert: Lowering of NC flags to half-staff through sunset on October 16 in tribute to the two Department of Public Safety employees who died in the line of duty Thursday afternoon

Gov. Roy Cooper today ordered all North Carolina state flags to be lowered to half-staff on Friday, October 13 from sunrise to sunset on Monday, October 16 in tribute to the two Department of Public Safety employees who died in the line of duty Thursday afternoon at Pasquotank Correctional Institution.

Correctional Officer Justin Smith had worked as a correctional officer since 2012.
