Governor Roy Cooper ordered all U.S. and North Carolina flags at state facilities to half-staff from sunrise on October 26 to sunset on October 27 to mark one month since Hurricane Helene struck and in remembrance of the 95 North Carolinians who were killed by this unprecedented storm.

Governor Roy Cooper declared October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month to help draw attention to the millions of victims and survivors of domestic abuse each year.According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, an average 24 people per minute are victims of rape, physical violence or stalking by an intimate partner in the United States. This equates to more than 12 million women and men over the course of a single year.

The NC Department of Administration last night was presented the 2024 Innovation in State Government: Modernization Award at the National Association of State Chief Administrators (NASCA) annual conference.The department was honored for its recent upgrade to the NC electronic Vendor Portal (eVP), a procurement hub for vendors and purchasing agents across the state.

Youth councils, local governments and private or non-profit agencies with ideas for innovative programs to help North Carolina teens can now apply for grants up to $500 through the State Youth Council’s Mini Grant program. Beginning August 19, the North Carolina Department of Administration’s Council for Women & Youth Involvement will accept applications from organizations that build character and leadership skills among North Carolina youth through peer-to-peer community projects. The application deadline is October 4.

This year, 18 North Carolina high school girls will participate in the Lady Cardinal Mentorship Program, a summer enrichment opportunity nurturing student interest in science, technology, engineering and mathematic careers in state government. Today, students will embark on a four-week hands-on educational experience at one of 13 participating state government agencies.

In commemoration of Old Glory, Governor Roy Cooper declared June 14, 2024, as Flag Day. This national day of observance recognizes the adoption of the flag of the United States on June 14, 1777, and pays homage to this symbol of democracy and freedom that serves as a beacon for all Americans. All North Carolinians are encouraged to display the U.S. flag at full staff to honor our country, history, service members and veterans of the U.S. Armed Forces.

In tribute to the sacrifices of our armed services personnel, Governor Roy Cooper has ordered all United States and North Carolina flags at state facilities be flown at half-staff from sunrise until noon on Monday, May 27 in honor of Memorial Day.
