Lowering U.S. and NC Flags to Half-Staff to Honor the Victims of the Tragedy in Uvalde, Texas

Governor Roy Cooper ordered all United States and North Carolina flags at state facilities to be lowered to half-staff beginning immediately through sunset May 28, 2022 to honor the victims of the tragedy in Uvalde, Texas where a senseless act of violence was perpetrated on May 24 at Robb Elementary School.

Statement from Governor Roy Cooper:

"What a devastating and unspeakable tragedy at a Texas Elementary School where at least 14 students were killed by a shooter. Our hearts are heavy for their loved ones and the community."

Lowering U.S. and NC Flags to Half-Staff in Honor of Former NC House of Representative George Graham

Governor Roy Cooper ordered all United States and North Carolina flags at state facilities to be lowered to half-staff from sunrise to sunset Saturday, May 21, in honor of former North Carolina House of Representative George Graham who passed away on Sunday, May 15. Graham represented District 12 as a member of the NC House of Representatives from 2013 to 2019. He also served many years on the Lenoir County board of commissioners.
 
Funeral services for Graham will be held on Saturday in Kinston, North Carolina.
 

Lowering U.S. and NC Flags to Half-Staff Honoring the Victims of the Tragedy in Buffalo, New York

Governor Roy Cooper ordered all United States and North Carolina flags at state facilities to be lowered to half-staff from sunrise to sunset Wednesday, May 18, 2022, in honor of the individuals who lost their lives and who were injured during a senseless act of racial violence on Saturday, May 14 in Buffalo, New York.

Lowering of U.S. and NC Flags to Half-Staff in Remembrance of the One Million American Lives Lost to COVID-19

Governor Roy Cooper ordered all U.S. and North Carolina flags at state facilities to be lowered to half-staff beginning immediately until sunset Monday, May 16, 2022 in memory of the one million American lives lost to COVID-19 and their loved ones left behind.

Lowering of U.S. and NC Flags to Half-Staff in Honor of National Peace Officers Memorial Day

Governor Roy Cooper ordered all U.S. and North Carolina flags at state facilities to be lowered to half-staff from sunrise to sunset on Monday, May 16 in honor of National Peace Officers Memorial Day. Each year on May 15, this special day recognizes the many men and women of law enforcement who lost their lives or who were injured in the line of duty.

Lowering of U.S. and NC Flags to Half-Staff in Honor of Former U.S. Secretary of State Madeleine Korbel Albright

Governor Roy Cooper ordered all U.S. and North Carolina flags at state facilities to half staff immediately until sunset Sunday, March 27, 2022, in honor of former U.S. Secretary of State Madeleine Korbel Albright who passed away on Wednesday, March 23. Nominated by President Bill Clinton, Albright was the first woman to serve as the U.S. secretary of state, a role in which she served from 1997 to 2001. Prior to this role, she served as the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations from 1993 to 1997.

Lowering of U.S. and NC Flags to Half-Staff in Honor of Four U.S. Marines Who Died in Norway

Governor Roy Cooper ordered all United States and North Carolina flags at state facilities to be lowered to half staff from sunsrise Saturday, March 26 through sunset Monday, March 28, 2022, in honor of four Camp Lejeune based U.S. Marines who died during a training flight in Norway on March 18. The training was in support of Exercise Cold Response 2022. The fallen Marines are:

Lowering of U.S. and NC Flags to Half-Staff in Honor of Former NC Senator Linda Garrou

Governor Roy Cooper ordered all United States and North Carolina flags at state facilities to be lowered to half staff from sunrise to sunset Thursday, March 24, 2022, in honor of former North Carolina Senator Linda Garrou, who passed away on Saturday, March 19. Garrou, a Forsyth County Democrat, served in the state Senate for more than a decade before retiring in 2012. A top state government budget-writer, Garrou served as one of the co-chairs of the Senate Appropriations Committee for eight years.

Lowering of U.S. and NC Flags to Half-Staff in Honor of Former NC Senator William B. Miller Sr.

Governor Roy Cooper ordered all U.S. and North Carolina flags at state facilities to be lowered to half staff from sunrise to sunset Saturday, March 19, 2022, in honor of former North Carolina Senator William B. Miller Sr., who passed away on Monday, March 14. Miller served eight years as chairman of the Forsyth County Republican Party and as a senator for District 31 in 2006.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on March 19 at the Forsyth Memorial Park in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. 

Lowering of U.S. and NC Flags to Half-Staff in Honor of Former NC Senator Hugh B. Webster

Governor Roy Cooper ordered all U.S. and North Carolina flags at state facilities to be lowered to half staff from sunrise to sunset Thursday, March 10, 2022, in honor of former North Carolina Senator Hugh B. Webster, who passed away on Friday, March 4. A member of the Republican Party, Webster served six terms representing our state's 24th senate district which included Alamance, Caswell, and parts of Person counties.

Funeral services for Webster will be held at 2 p.m. on March 10 at Union United Methodist Church in Leasburg, North Carolina
