Governor Roy Cooper ordered all U.S. and North Carolina flags at state facilities to half-staff in honor of the victims killed yesterday in East Raleigh. Five people were killed and two others injured during a shooting Thursday evening near the Hedingham neighborhood.   Statement from Governor Roy Cooper "We mourn for the victims of this horrific and infuriating act of violence," said Governor Cooper. "Thank you to our local and state law enforcement who worked tirelessly to capture the suspect." 

Governor Roy Cooper proclaimed October 2022 as Minority Enterprise Development Month to acknowledge the outstanding achievements of North Carolina minority businesses, corporations, and financial institutions.

Governor Roy Cooper has ordered all United States and North Carolina flags at state facilities to be lowered to half-staff from sunrise to sunset on Monday, Oct. 10, 2022 in honor of National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Day. In accordance with Public Law 107-51, flags are to be lowered annually in recognition of the many firefighters who have lost their lives in the line of duty.

All U.S. and North Carolina flags at state facilities will remain at half-staff until sunset Sept. 19, 2022, in honor of Queen Elizabeth II who passed away on Thursday, Sept. 8. As we continue to honor the life of Queen Elizabeth II, we also pause this weekend to pay tribute to Patriot Day, also known as the National Day of Service and Remembrance. Governor Roy Cooper has proclaimed August 26 as Women’s Equality Day in North Carolina to honor women leaders across the state and encourage residents to support organizations that advocate for social progress and equity for women.

Youth councils, local governments and private or non-profit agencies with ideas for innovative programs to help North Carolina’s teens can now apply for grants up to $500 through the State Youth Council’s Mini Grant program. Beginning today the North Carolina Department of Administration’s Council for Women & Youth Involvement will accept applications from organizations that build character and leadership skills among North Carolina youth through peer-to-peer community projects. The application deadline is Sept. 30.
