Governor Roy Cooper today ordered all United States and North Carolina flags at state facilities to be lowered immediately to half-staff in tribute to Representative Walter Jones. Rep. Jones served eastern North Carolina's 3rd District in the U.S. House of Representatives for more than 20 years. He will be funeralized Thursday, February 14, 2019.  Governor Cooper released the following statement on Sunday.

On Friday, January 18, 2019, the State of North Carolina will hold its annual State Employees’ Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday Observance Program in Raleigh, NC. As we continue to honor the life of our nation's 41st U.S. President, George H.W. Bush, please also join us as we pay tribute to Lumberton Police Officer, Jason Quick. Quick died in the line of duty on Saturday, December 15, while responding to an accident on I-95. His funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 20 at The Rock Church of God in Lumberton, NC.

Bush, please also join us in the observance of National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day on Friday, December 7.  Friday marks 77 years since the attack on Pearl Harbor, Hawaii during World War II, where many American men and women lost their lives or were injured on December 7, 1941.

Governor Roy Cooper has ordered all United States and North Carolina flags flown at state facilities in North Carolina be lowered to half-staff immediately in honor and remembrance of the life of our nation's 41st U.S. President, George H.W. Bush. As outlined in U.S. Code, Title 4, Chapter 1, §7, flags are to remain at half-staff for a period of 30 days. Flags will return to full-staff on December 31, 2018 at sunrise.

The State of North Carolina launched a new, faster, cost-effective way to submit bids. The North Carolina Business Invitation Delivery System (NC BIDS) will enable vendors to respond to specified solicitations electronically – for free – saving both time and money. The system is a new development by the Department of Administration’s Division of Purchase & Contract, the central procurement authority for the State of North Carolina. The new NC BIDS will pose many benefits including eliminating the need to print and ship paper proposals packages and it is user-friendly.
