Today, Governor Roy Cooper proclaimed April as Sexual Assault Awareness Month to increase awareness and help address this widespread public health issue. More than half of women and nearly 1 in 3 men in the United States have experienced sexual violence involving physical contact during their lifetimes according to the National Center for Injury Prevention and Control. 

Governor Roy Cooper ordered all U.S. and North Carolina flags at state facilities to half-staff from sunrise to sunset Monday, April 3, in honor of former North Carolina Senator David Hoyle who passed away on Wednesday, March 29. Hoyle served nine terms in the North Carolina Senate and also served as secretary of the N.C. Department of Revenue. Governor Roy Cooper ordered all U.S. and North Carolina flags at state facilities to half-staff from sunrise to sunset Tuesday, February 28, in honor of former North Carolina Congressman Jim Broyhill who passed away on Saturday, February 18. Broyhill served North Carolina's Foothill region in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1963 to 1986 and briefly in the U.S. Senate. Governor Roy Cooper ordered all U.S. and North Carolina flags at state facilities to half-staff immediately until sunset Tuesday, February 7, in honor of former North Carolina Republican Senator Jerry W. Tillman who passed away on Saturday, February 4. A native of Archdale, North Carolina, Tillman served North Carolina's 29th and 26th districts from January 1, 2003 until June 30, 2020.   Statement from Governor Roy Cooper

Governor Roy Cooper ordered all North Carolina flags at state facilities to half-staff from sunrise to sunset, Wednesday, February 1, 2023, in honor of Tribal Elder and former Chairman of the Occaneechi Band of the Saponi Nation, John "Blackfeather" Jeffries, who passed away on Tuesday, January 24.

On Friday, the NC Department of Administration honored 19 of its employees who have exemplified excellence in their work during the past year. Departmental leaders and more than 100 staff members gathered for a special ceremony where honorees were presented with the Secretary’s Award for Excellence in the categories of customer service, outstanding state government service, efficiency and innovation, public service, and teamwork.
