Governor Roy Cooper ordered all U.S. and North Carolina flags at state facilities to half-staff in honor of Wake County Sheriff's Office Deputy Ned Byrd who was killed in the line of duty overnight. Details are still emerging as the investigation continues into the incident along Battle Bridge Road in southern Wake County.    Statement from Governor Roy Cooper “We’re deeply grateful for Wake County Deputy Ned Byrd’s service to our state. Governor Roy Cooper is extending the half-staff order for all U.S. and North Carolina flags at state facilities  in honor of Wayne County Sheriff's Office Sgt. Matthew Fishman. Beginning today through sunset August 9, all flags are to remain at half-staff. Services for Sgt. Fishman will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, August 9 at the University of Mount Olive's Kornegay Arena in Dudley, North Carolina. In tribute to his life and service, flags have been lowered in his honor since Tuesday, August 2.

Governor Roy Cooper ordered all U.S. and North Carolina flags at state facilities to half-staff in honor of Wayne County Sheriff's Office Sgt. Matthew Fishman who succumbed to injuries sustained in the line of duty on Monday. Fishman along with officers Cpl. Andrew Cox and Deputy Alexander Ramon Torres were injured yesterday while serving an involuntary commitment order in Dudley, North Carolina.

Governor Roy Cooper ordered all U.S. and North Carolina flags at state facilities to remain lowered to half-staff through sunset July 10, 2022 in memory of Shinzo Abe, the former prime minister of Japan, who was assassinated while giving a speech on Friday. This year, 13 North Carolina high school girls will participate in the Lady Cardinal Mentorship Program, a summer enrichment opportunity nurturing student interest in state government science, technology, engineering and mathematic career fields.

The NC Department of Administration’s Division of Purchase & Contract (P&C) will host a graduation ceremony today, June 21, honoring state employees who’ve achieved certification through the NC Procurement Academy from 2020 to 2022.

Governor Roy Cooper has proclaimed June 19 as Juneteenth Day in North Carolina to honor the oldest known commemoration of the abolition of slavery in the United States. “As we celebrate Black heritage, liberation, freedom and the great progress we have made, we must continue to be aware that systemic racism still persists,” Governor Cooper said. “Although we’ve come a long way since 1865, there’s more work to do.”

By official proclamation, Governor Roy Cooper declared June 14, 2022, as Flag Day. This national day of observance recognizes the adoption of the flag of the United States on June 14, 1777, and pays homage to this symbol of democracy and freedom that serves as a beacon for all Americans.  All North Carolinians are encouraged to display the U.S. flag at full staff to honor our country, history, service members and veterans of the U.S. Armed Forces.
