Governor Roy Cooper ordered all U.S. and North Carolina flags at state facilities to half-staff in honor of Wayne County Sheriff's Office Sgt. Matthew Fishman who succumbed to injuries sustained in the line of duty on Monday. Fishman along with officers Cpl. Andrew Cox and Deputy Alexander Ramon Torres were injured yesterday while serving an involuntary commitment order in Dudley, North Carolina.

Governor Roy Cooper ordered all U.S. and North Carolina flags at state facilities to remain lowered to half-staff through sunset July 10, 2022 in memory of Shinzo Abe, the former prime minister of Japan, who was assassinated while giving a speech on Friday. This year, 13 North Carolina high school girls will participate in the Lady Cardinal Mentorship Program, a summer enrichment opportunity nurturing student interest in state government science, technology, engineering and mathematic career fields.

The NC Department of Administration’s Division of Purchase & Contract (P&C) will host a graduation ceremony today, June 21, honoring state employees who’ve achieved certification through the NC Procurement Academy from 2020 to 2022.

Governor Roy Cooper has proclaimed June 19 as Juneteenth Day in North Carolina to honor the oldest known commemoration of the abolition of slavery in the United States. “As we celebrate Black heritage, liberation, freedom and the great progress we have made, we must continue to be aware that systemic racism still persists,” Governor Cooper said. “Although we’ve come a long way since 1865, there’s more work to do.”

By official proclamation, Governor Roy Cooper declared June 14, 2022, as Flag Day. This national day of observance recognizes the adoption of the flag of the United States on June 14, 1777, and pays homage to this symbol of democracy and freedom that serves as a beacon for all Americans.  All North Carolinians are encouraged to display the U.S. flag at full staff to honor our country, history, service members and veterans of the U.S. Armed Forces.

In tribute to the sacrifices of our armed services personnel, Governor Roy Cooper has ordered all United States and North Carolina flags at state facilities be flown at half-staff on Monday, May 30 until 12 noon in honor of Memorial Day.  Statement from Governor Cooper: "This Memorial Day, we honor the brave men and women who have lost their lives while serving our country. Today, we reflect on their sacrifice, courage and selflessness."

Governor Roy Cooper ordered all United States and North Carolina flags at state facilities to be lowered to half-staff beginning immediately through sunset May 28, 2022 to honor the victims of the tragedy in Uvalde, Texas where a senseless act of violence was perpetrated on May 24 at Robb Elementary School. Statement from Governor Roy Cooper: "What a devastating and unspeakable tragedy at a Texas Elementary School where at least 14 students were killed by a shooter. Our hearts are heavy for their loved ones and the community."

Today, 83 students, representing 31 North Carolina counties, will embark on a 10-week educational experience as they begin internships in North Carolina’s state government agencies.
