In tribute to the sacrifices of our armed services personnel, Governor Roy Cooper has ordered all United States and North Carolina flags at state facilities be flown at half-staff on Monday, May 30 until 12 noon in honor of Memorial Day.  Statement from Governor Cooper: "This Memorial Day, we honor the brave men and women who have lost their lives while serving our country. Today, we reflect on their sacrifice, courage and selflessness."

Governor Roy Cooper ordered all United States and North Carolina flags at state facilities to be lowered to half-staff beginning immediately through sunset May 28, 2022 to honor the victims of the tragedy in Uvalde, Texas where a senseless act of violence was perpetrated on May 24 at Robb Elementary School. Statement from Governor Roy Cooper: "What a devastating and unspeakable tragedy at a Texas Elementary School where at least 14 students were killed by a shooter. Our hearts are heavy for their loved ones and the community."

Today, 83 students, representing 31 North Carolina counties, will embark on a 10-week educational experience as they begin internships in North Carolina’s state government agencies.

On June 1, the North Carolina Department of Administration’s Office for Historically Underutilized Businesses (HUB) will once again open applications for grant funds for certified HUBs and disadvantaged business enterprise (DBE) firms impacted by COVID-19.  

Governor Roy Cooper ordered all United States and North Carolina flags at state facilities to be lowered to half-staff from sunrise to sunset Saturday, May 21, in honor of former North Carolina House of Representative George Graham who passed away on Sunday, May 15. Graham represented District 12 as a member of the NC House of Representatives from 2013 to 2019. He also served many years on the Lenoir County board of commissioners.   Funeral services for Graham will be held on Saturday in Kinston, North Carolina.

Governor Roy Cooper ordered all U.S. and North Carolina flags at state facilities to be lowered to half-staff from sunrise to sunset on Monday, May 16 in honor of National Peace Officers Memorial Day. Each year on May 15, this special day recognizes the many men and women of law enforcement who lost their lives or who were injured in the line of duty.   Statement from Governor Roy Cooper: "It’s so important for us to honor the law enforcement professionals who have lost their lives in the line of duty and to keep them and their families in our prayers."  

Governor Roy Cooper declared May 5 as a Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, raising awareness on the disproportionate rate of American Indian and Alaska Native women who have disappeared from their homes and lost their lives due to acts of violence.

The NC Department of Administration’s State Youth Council and Youth Advisory Council recently awarded a total of $6,292 through the annual Mini Grant Program to 15 deserving North Carolina-based organizations. Each year, funding ranging from $100 to $500 is awarded to youth organizations to create peer-to-peer activities within their communities geared towards high schoolers.
