On June 1, the North Carolina Department of Administration’s Office for Historically Underutilized Businesses (HUB) will once again open applications for grant funds for certified HUBs and disadvantaged business enterprise (DBE) firms impacted by COVID-19.  

Governor Roy Cooper ordered all United States and North Carolina flags at state facilities to be lowered to half-staff from sunrise to sunset Saturday, May 21, in honor of former North Carolina House of Representative George Graham who passed away on Sunday, May 15. Graham represented District 12 as a member of the NC House of Representatives from 2013 to 2019. He also served many years on the Lenoir County board of commissioners.   Funeral services for Graham will be held on Saturday in Kinston, North Carolina.

Governor Roy Cooper ordered all U.S. and North Carolina flags at state facilities to be lowered to half-staff from sunrise to sunset on Monday, May 16 in honor of National Peace Officers Memorial Day. Each year on May 15, this special day recognizes the many men and women of law enforcement who lost their lives or who were injured in the line of duty.   Statement from Governor Roy Cooper: "It’s so important for us to honor the law enforcement professionals who have lost their lives in the line of duty and to keep them and their families in our prayers."  

Governor Roy Cooper declared May 5 as a Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, raising awareness on the disproportionate rate of American Indian and Alaska Native women who have disappeared from their homes and lost their lives due to acts of violence.

The NC Department of Administration’s State Youth Council and Youth Advisory Council recently awarded a total of $6,292 through the annual Mini Grant Program to 15 deserving North Carolina-based organizations. Each year, funding ranging from $100 to $500 is awarded to youth organizations to create peer-to-peer activities within their communities geared towards high schoolers. 

During the next three months, the NC Department of Administration is providing business and government leaders opportunities to join a virtual lunch and learn series that explore ways to enhance and develop diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts within North Carolina’s public and private business sectors.

More than 1 in 3 women and 1 in 4 men in the United States have experienced sexual violence in their lifetime according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. To raise awareness and continue educating North Carolinians on this prevalent issue, Governor Roy Cooper proclaimed April as Sexual Assault Awareness Month.

Governor Roy Cooper ordered all U.S. and North Carolina flags at state facilities to half staff immediately until sunset Sunday, March 27, 2022, in honor of former U.S. Secretary of State Madeleine Korbel Albright who passed away on Wednesday, March 23. Nominated by President Bill Clinton, Albright was the first woman to serve as the U.S. secretary of state, a role in which she served from 1997 to 2001. Prior to this role, she served as the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations from 1993 to 1997.
