Governor Roy Cooper today issued additional COVID-19 safety measures to tighten mask requirements and enforcement as cases continue to rise rapidly in North Carolina and across the country. Executive Order No. 180 goes into effect on Wednesday, November 25 and runs through Friday, December 11.  "I have a stark warning for North Carolinians today: We are in danger," Governor Cooper said. "This is a pivotal moment in our fight against the coronavirus. Our actions now will determine the fate of many."

Governor Roy Cooper today ordered all United States and North Carolina flags at state facilities to be lowered to half-staff beginning today, November 16, 2020 until sunset on Friday, November 20, 2020 in honor of North Carolina native, US Army Chief Warrant Officer 3, Dallas Gearld Garza, who passed away in a helicopter accident with four other Americans in Sinai, Egypt on Thursday.

Boyd, who passed away in a traffic incident on Monday. 

The NC Department of Administration’s Division of Purchase & Contract, the state’s central procurement authority, is among the list of finalists for the NC Tech Awards. The Division of Purchase & Contract (P&C) is nominated to receive a Use of Technology Award for its recent upgrade to the NC eProcurement System this summer. P&C is competing against four other North Carolina agencies within the Public Sector Project Category.

The State of North Carolina Internship Program is now accepting applications for summer 2021. College students interested in careers in state government can apply to participate in the summer enrichment program beginning November 2, 2020 through January 4, 2021.

Originally from Weddington, North Carolina, Ensign Garrett and US Navy Lt. Rhiannon Ross of Wixom, Michigan passed away during a routine training flight from Florida on Friday.

Grants of up to $1,000 are available from the NC Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Commission to nonprofit organizations and local government agencies wishing to create or strengthen youth programs in North Carolina’s rural and underserved communities, supporting the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The theme of this year’s 2020-2021 grant program is “all service has purpose,” a topic often addressed and elevated in the teachings of Dr. King to encourage unity and service within the community.

The North Carolina Department of Administration’s Council for Women & Youth Involvement (CFWYI) is accepting mini grant applications through its State Youth Council program until November 6, 2020. Youth Councils are active across the state, enabling students to enhance their communities while helping their peers. The annual mini grant program specifically targets youth, particularly high school students grades 9 - 12, giving Youth Council members an opportunity to help local peers establish leadership skills in project development, management, and communication.

Governor Roy Cooper announced today that North Carolina will remain paused in Phase 3 for three more weeks as health officials continue to monitor North Carolina’s viral trends. North Carolina has seen increased hospitalizations and trajectory of cases in recent weeks. Governor Cooper underscored the importance of wearing masks, social distancing, and using good judgment despite fatigue or frustration with the pandemic.

The Andrea Harris Social, Economic, Environmental, and Health Equity Task Force’s Educational Opportunity Subcommittee will host a virtual public roundtable on Tuesday, October 27, 2020 from 6-8 p.m. The Educational Opportunity Subcommittee serves to develop policy recommendations that will create educational opportunities for communities of color in health literacy, financial literacy, general academia, as well as recommendations on strategies to increase funding for health education in community centers that service vulnerable communities.
