On June 25, the NC Department of Administration’s (DOA) Office for Historically Underutilized Businesses in collaboration with ResilNC will offer an informational forum to aid North Carolina’s minority-owned businesses disproportionately impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. The virtual event titled, “Black Business Forum: Scaling North Carolina’s Underestimated Entrepreneurs Post-COVID” will provide resources to aid North Carolina’s diverse businesses in economic recovery. Among the list of guest presenters include Governor Roy Cooper, NC DOA Secretary Pamela B.

By official proclamation, Governor Roy Cooper declared June 14, 2021 as Flag Day. This national day of observance recognizes the adoption of the flag of the United States on June 14, 1777 and pays homage to this symbol of democracy and freedom that serves as a beacon for all Americans.  All North Carolinians are encouraged to display the US flag to honor our country, history, servicemembers and veterans of the US Armed Forces.

In tribute to the sacrifices of our armed services personnel, Governor Roy Cooper has ordered all United States and North Carolina flags at state facilities be flown at half-staff on Monday, May 31 until 12 noon in honor of Memorial Day.  Statement from Governor Cooper: "I am profoundly grateful for those who have lost their lives in the line of duty protecting our country and our freedom. I salute them, their families, their friends and their comrades in arms as we take this day to reflect upon and appreciate their ultimate sacrifice for all of us."

Governor Roy Cooper has ordered all United States and North Carolina flags at state facilities to be lowered immediately to half-staff until sunset on Sunday, May 30, 2021 honoring the victims of the tragedy in San Jose, California who lost their lives today to a senseless act of violence. In tribute to the lives lost and the families in mourning all North Carolinians are encouraged to join in lowering flags to half-staff in their honor. 

Today, 71 students, representing 24 of North Carolina counties, will embark on a 10-week educational experience at one of North Carolina’s state government agencies. For more than 50 years, the State of North Carolina Internship Program has provided state government work opportunities to North Carolina students attending a college, university, technical institute, or community college.

On Saturday, please join us in honoring the many members of our military and law enforcement.  May 15th is National Armed Forces Day and National Peace Officers Memorial Day.  National Armed Forces Day honors our service men and women of the military. Established in 1949, this special day celebrates our uniformed heroes each year on every 3rd Saturday of May.

The NC License to Give Trust Fund Commission awarded grant-in-aid to two North Carolina nonprofits in support of organ donation education and advance care planning. The recipients are Donate Life North Carolina and the Health Innovations Group.

Services for Watauga County Sheriff Office's Sgt. Chris Ward and K-9 Deputy Logan Fox will be held at 3 pm today, May 6 at Appalachian State University Holmes Convocation Center. A private ceremony will also be held for Sgt. Ward on May 7.

Governor Roy Cooper declared May 5 as a Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women to raise awareness of the many American Indian and Alaska Native women who have disappeared from their homes and lost their lives to acts of violence. The proclamation also notes the disproportionate rate of violence against Indigenous women. According to a study conducted on behalf of the United States Department of Justice, in some tribal communities, Indigenous women face murder rates that are roughly ten times the national average.

Governor Roy Cooper has ordered all United States and North Carolina flags at state facilities to be lowered immediately to half-staff in honor of Fort Bragg Spc. Abigail Jenks who passed away on April 19 during a training exercise. She was part of the 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division. Spc. Jenks day of interment is May 2. US flags are to remain lowered until sunset on Sunday.
