For the first time in over 50 years, the State of North Carolina Internship Program is modifying its standard hands-on learning approach to provide a virtual learning experience to students this summer due to COVID-19. This year, students are only interning on state agency assignments where teleworking is an option, narrowing the original number of summer projects for students this year from 100 to 44.

Governor Roy Cooper ordered all United States and North Carolina flags at state facilities to remain lowered to half-staff through sunrise on Monday, May 18, 2020 in honor of Private First Class Tyler Knight Cox, who passed away during training on Wednesday, April 29, in Jacksonville, North Carolina. Stationed at Camp LeJeune, PFC Cox was assigned to a 3d Battalion 8th Marines as a 0311 rifleman.  Services for PFC Cox will be held on Saturday, May 16 in his hometown of Dike, Iowa.

Governor Roy Cooper today ordered all United States and North Carolina flags at state facilities to be lowered to half-staff beginning Friday, May 1, 2020 until sunset on Monday, May 4, 2020 in honor of former NC State Senator and Senate Majority Leader Tony Rand, who passed away on Friday. A native of Garner, North Carolina, Rand served more than 20 years in the NC Senate. As Senator he represented North Carolina's 19th District, and served as Chairman of the Rules Committee as well as a right-hand man for Senate President Pro Tem Marc Basnight.

Governor Roy Cooper declared today, April 1, 2020, as National Census Day, to encourage all North Carolinians to participate in the census and be counted. The 2020 Census will determine how much federal funding flows to North Carolina communities and how much representation our state gets in Congress.
Governor Roy Cooper ordered all United States and North Carolina flags at state facilities to remain lowered to half-staff until sunset Friday, April 3, 2020 in honor of State Highway Patrol Trooper Nolan J. Sanders who passed away while in the line of duty in Wayne County on Friday, March 27. Trooper Sanders joined the State Highway Patrol in 2015.
