Governor Roy Cooper today ordered all United States and North Carolina flags at state facilities to be lowered to half-staff beginning Friday, May 1, 2020 until sunset on Monday, May 4, 2020 in honor of former NC State Senator and Senate Majority Leader Tony Rand, who passed away on Friday. A native of Garner, North Carolina, Rand served more than 20 years in the NC Senate. As Senator he represented North Carolina's 19th District, and served as Chairman of the Rules Committee as well as a right-hand man for Senate President Pro Tem Marc Basnight.

Governor Roy Cooper declared today, April 1, 2020, as National Census Day, to encourage all North Carolinians to participate in the census and be counted. The 2020 Census will determine how much federal funding flows to North Carolina communities and how much representation our state gets in Congress.

Governor Roy Cooper ordered all United States and North Carolina flags at state facilities to remain lowered to half-staff until sunset Friday, April 3, 2020 in honor of State Highway Patrol Trooper Nolan J. Sanders who passed away while in the line of duty in Wayne County on Friday, March 27. Trooper Sanders joined the State Highway Patrol in 2015. Prior to this role, he served as a deputy with the Wayne County Sheriff's Office.  Governor Cooper released the following statement on Friday:

Governor Roy Cooper today ordered all United States and North Carolina flags at state facilities to be lowered to half-staff beginning Saturday, March 28, 2020 until sunset Tuesday, March 31, 2020 in honor of NC House of Representative MaryAnn Black, who passed away this week. Black represented the 29th District of Durham County since 2017. She also served as a Durham County Commissioner from 1990 to 2002. A private service for Rep. Black was held on Friday. Governor Roy Cooper today ordered all United States and North Carolina flags at state facilities to be lowered to half-staff beginning Friday, March 20, 2020 in honor of the following fallen soldiers who were stationed at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.

Governor Roy Cooper today ordered all United States and North Carolina flags at state facilities to be lowered to half-staff beginning Tuesday, March 10, 2020 in honor of Gunnery Sgt. Diego D. Pongo and Marine Corps Capt. Moises A. Navas. Sgt. Pongo and Capt. Navas died while accompanying Iraqi Security Forces in north central Iraq on Sunday. They were both assigned to the 2nd Marine Raider Battalion, Marine Forces Special Operations Command at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. In tribute, flags are to remain at halfstaff through sunset on Sunday, March 15, 2020.

The NC Department of Administration’s Council for Women & Youth Involvement (CFWYI) is accepting applications for the annual Lady Cardinal Mentorship Program.

The NC Department of Administration’s License to Give Trust Fund Commission awarded grant-in-aid to two North Carolina nonprofits in support of organ donation education. The recipients are Donate Life North Carolina and the Carolinas Center for Hospice and End of Life Care.
