The North Carolina Department of Administration Council for Women & Youth Involvement (CFWYI) is accepting mini grant applications through its State Youth Council program, beginning today. Youth Councils are active across the state, enabling students to enhance their communities while helping their peers. The annual mini grant program specifically targets youth, particularly high school students grades 9 - 12, giving Youth Council members an opportunity to help local peers establish leadership skills in project development, management and communication.

Governor Roy Cooper today ordered all United States and North Carolina flags at state facilities to be lowered to half-staff from sunrise to sunset on Wednesday, September 11, in tribute to Patriot Day, also known as the National Day of Service and Remembrance. This day honors the victims of the 9/11 tragedy, their families and the heroic sacrifices of first responders. Please join us as we remember the thousands of innocent lives lost during the most deadly attack on U.S. soil. 

Ahead of Women’s Equality Day on August 26, the NC Department of Administration (DOA) launched a new mentorship program on July 1, to address gender equity in North Carolina within the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). The Lady Cardinal Mentorship Program, established by DOA Secretary Machelle Sanders, offers high school girls in North Carolina an opportunity to explore STEM-based careers within state government.

Governor Roy Cooper has ordered all United States and North Carolina flags at state facilities to remain at half-staff through sunset on August 13, in honor of US Army Specialist Michael Isaiah Nance, who died while in combat in southern Afghanistan. Spc. Nance was a member of the Army's 82nd Airborne Division in Fort Bragg, North Carolina. Services for Spc. Nance will be held in his hometown of Chicago, Illinois on Tuesday.

Governor Roy Cooper has ordered all United States and North Carolina flags at state facilities to remain at half-staff through sunset on August 10, in honor of US Army Private First Class Brandon Jay Kreischer, who died while in combat in southern Afghanistan. Pfc. Kreischer was a member of the Army's 82nd Airborne Division in Fort Bragg, North Carolina. Services for Pfc. Kreischer will be held at the Bryan High School gymnasium in Bryan, Ohio on Saturday. 

Governor Roy Cooper today ordered all United States and North Carolina flags at state facilities to be lowered to half-staff effective immediately in honor of the victims of the tragedies in El Paso, Texas and Dayton, Ohio that occurred over the weekend. Our state is also mourning the loss of US Army Private First Class Brandon Jay Kreischer and Specialist Michael Isaiah Nance, who were both members of the Army’s 82nd Airborne Division in Fort Bragg, North Carolina.

Governor Roy Cooper today ordered all North Carolina flags on the grounds of the North Carolina Zoo in Asheboro be lowered to half-staff from sunrise to sunset on Thursday, July 25, to honor state employee and arborist Branson Langley. Langley, a Randolph County native, died last Thursday while performing an aerial rescue drill at the zoo.  ###

Governor Roy Cooper today ordered all United States and North Carolina flags at state facilities to be lowered to half-staff from sunrise to sunset on Tuesday, July 23, in honor of US Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens, who passed away Tuesday, July 16. Justice Stevens, who retired in 2010, was the 3rd longest-serving Justice in the history of the US Supreme Court. A private funeral service for the late Justice Stevens will be held on July 23 at the Arlington National Cemetery.

NC Department of Administration’s Secretary Machelle Sanders will present the  2019 Status of Women in North Carolina: Health and Wellness Report on the main campus of Vance-Granville Community College on Thursday, July 18 at 11:00 a.m.

July 2019 marks the 10th anniversary of the North Carolina Department of Administration’s (NC DOA) Office for Historically Underutilized Businesses’ (HUB) Statewide Uniform Certification (SWUC) program, and kicks off a celebration of several key milestones for HUB as well as minority- and women-owned businesses that work with North Carolina state government.
