Governor Roy Cooper today ordered all United States and North Carolina flags at state facilities to be lowered to half-staff effective immediately in honor of the victims of the tragedies in El Paso, Texas and Dayton, Ohio that occurred over the weekend. Our state is also mourning the loss of US Army Private First Class Brandon Jay Kreischer and Specialist Michael Isaiah Nance, who were both members of the Army’s 82nd Airborne Division in Fort Bragg, North Carolina.

Governor Roy Cooper today ordered all North Carolina flags on the grounds of the North Carolina Zoo in Asheboro be lowered to half-staff from sunrise to sunset on Thursday, July 25, to honor state employee and arborist Branson Langley. Langley, a Randolph County native, died last Thursday while performing an aerial rescue drill at the zoo.  ###

Governor Roy Cooper today ordered all United States and North Carolina flags at state facilities to be lowered to half-staff from sunrise to sunset on Tuesday, July 23, in honor of US Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens, who passed away Tuesday, July 16. Justice Stevens, who retired in 2010, was the 3rd longest-serving Justice in the history of the US Supreme Court. A private funeral service for the late Justice Stevens will be held on July 23 at the Arlington National Cemetery.

NC Department of Administration’s Secretary Machelle Sanders will present the  2019 Status of Women in North Carolina: Health and Wellness Report on the main campus of Vance-Granville Community College on Thursday, July 18 at 11:00 a.m.

The NC Department of Administration’s Council for Women and Youth Involvement today unveiled the 2019 Status of Women in North Carolina: Health and Wellness Report at UNC Wilmington. This report is the second of four to be released by the Council in partnership with the Institute for Women’s Policy Research to bring awareness to key issues affecting the lives of women in North Carolina.

Governor Roy Cooper today ordered all United States and North Carolina flags at state facilities to be lowered to half-staff from sunrise to sunset on Friday, June 21, in honor of US Army Private First Class William "Hoover" Jones and all those who have fought for our country overseas and never returned home. 

By official proclamation, Governor Roy Cooper declared June 14, 2019 as Flag Day. This national day of observance recognizes the adoption of the flag of the United States on June 14, 1777 and pays homage to this symbol of democracy and freedom that serves as a beacon for all Americans.  All North Carolinians are encouraged to display the US flag today to honor our country, history, servicemembers and veterans of the US Armed Forces.

Governor Roy Cooper has ordered all United States and North Carolina flags at state buildings, facilities and grounds to be lowered to half-staff immediately through sunset on Tuesday, June 4, 2019 to honor the victims of the Virginia Beach, Virginia tragedy on May 31, 2019. Governor Cooper shared the following statement:  "We mourn for the people of Virginia Beach and their dedicated public employees who must suffer from yet another senseless act of gun violence," said Gov. Roy Cooper. "We must keep fighting to do more to stop the carnage."
