Governor Roy Cooper has ordered all United States and North Carolina flags at state facilities to be lowered to half-staff today, August 27, 2018 until sunset on August 30, 2018, in honor of the passing of military veteran and U.S. Senator John McCain of Arizona.  "John McCain was a true American hero who served his country with honor throughout his life, and our nation has lost a great man," said Governor Cooper. "Our prayers are with his family and all those who loved him and served with him." ###

Governor Roy Cooper has ordered all United States and North Carolina flags at state facilities to be lowered to half-staff until sunset on August 18, 2018 in honor of fallen firefighter Jeff Holden of the Orange Rural Fire Department. Holden, an assistant chief for the department, died Monday after completing a rescue call. ###

In honor of those who served, Governor Cooper has ordered all United States and North Carolina flags at state facilities be flown at half-staff from sunrise to sunset on Friday, July 27 for National Korean War Veterans Armistice Day. The North Carolina Department of Military and Veteran Affairs estimates that over 100,000 North Carolinians served in the Korean War, resulting in more than 700 North Carolina casualties.    

In support of Governor Roy Cooper’s Workforce Development Initiative and to promote more women in STEM-related fields, North Carolina Department of Administration’s (DOA) Secretary Machelle Sanders will visit and tour Pitt Community College’s Pharmaceutical Services Center and Walter & Marie Williams Science Center on Tuesday, July 24 from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m.

In addition to the United States flags, Governor Roy Cooper has ordered all North Carolina flags at state facilities to be lowered to half-staff until sunset on July 3, 2018, in honor of the victims of the shooting at the Capital Gazette newspaper in Annapolis, Maryland. ###

Governor Roy Cooper has ordered all United States and North Carolina flags at state facilities to be lowered to half-staff until sunset on June 29, 2018 in honor of Rocky Mount Senior Police Officer Christopher Driver who died in the line of duty on Saturday. ###

By official proclamation, Governor Roy Cooper declares June 14, 2018 as Flag Day. As such he urges all Americans to display the flag of the United States of America in honor of our country, its history and its people. ​To view the full proclamation click here.  

The North Carolina Council for Women and Youth Involvement and North Carolina Department of Administration Secretary Machelle Sanders are announcing a key report on women’s employment and earnings in a series of three events across the state today and tomorrow.

As a sign of respect for the sacrifices of our armed services personnel, Governor Cooper has ordered all United States and North Carolina flags at state facilities be flown at half-staff on Monday, May 28 until 12 noon in honor of Memorial Day. North Carolinians and local governments are encouraged to display flags at half-staff as well.

A total of 111 college students representing 41 North Carolina counties are interning in state government this summer through the State of NC Internship Program. The 2018 class of interns includes current undergrad and grad students, as well as law students who will work at state agencies across North Carolina for a 10-week period. During their internship, participants will have the opportunity to do professional work that connects their classroom experiences and potential career choices.
