Governor Roy Cooper has ordered all United States and North Carolina flags at state facilities to be lowered to half-staff until sunset Sunday, October 14 in honor of former NC House Co-speaker Richard Morgan. Morgan passed away on Wednesday, October 10. He will be laid to rest on Sunday at Faith Baptist Church in West End.  In memory of former Rep. Richard Morgan, Governor Cooper released the following statement:

 

Governor Roy Cooper has ordered all United States and North Carolina flags at state facilities to be lowered to half-staff from sunrise to sunset Tuesday, October 9 in honor of North Carolina Army National Guard Sergeant James Allen Slape of Morehead City, who was killed in Afghanistan on October 4, 2018.

Governor Roy Cooper has ordered all United States and North Carolina flags at state facilities to be lowered to half-staff from sunrise to sunset Monday, October 8 in honor of National Firefighters Memorial Day. This day recognizes the many firefighters who have lost their lives in the line of duty.    ###

Governor Roy Cooper today ordered all United States and North Carolina flags at state facilities to be lowered immediately to half-staff in tribute to the victims and their families of the 9-11 tragedy. Seventeen years ago, 9/11 first responders made heroic sacrifices that will live on in our hearts and minds forever. Today, we remember the thousands of innocent victims who were hurt or lost their lives, and we remember those who stepped up to help their fellow Americans. We pay tribute today to the victims and families of this tragic event. ###

In honor of the extended interment of U.S. Senator John McCain, the original flag alert issued by Governor Cooper on Monday will expand until Sunday. All United States and North Carolina flags at state facilities shall remain at half-staff until sunset September 2, 2018 in honor of the passing of military veteran and U.S. Senator John McCain of Arizona.

Governor Roy Cooper has ordered all United States and North Carolina flags at state facilities to be lowered to half-staff today, August 27, 2018 until sunset on August 30, 2018, in honor of the passing of military veteran and U.S. Senator John McCain of Arizona.  "John McCain was a true American hero who served his country with honor throughout his life, and our nation has lost a great man," said Governor Cooper. "Our prayers are with his family and all those who loved him and served with him." ###

Governor Roy Cooper has ordered all United States and North Carolina flags at state facilities to be lowered to half-staff until sunset on August 18, 2018 in honor of fallen firefighter Jeff Holden of the Orange Rural Fire Department. Holden, an assistant chief for the department, died Monday after completing a rescue call. ###

In honor of those who served, Governor Cooper has ordered all United States and North Carolina flags at state facilities be flown at half-staff from sunrise to sunset on Friday, July 27 for National Korean War Veterans Armistice Day. The North Carolina Department of Military and Veteran Affairs estimates that over 100,000 North Carolinians served in the Korean War, resulting in more than 700 North Carolina casualties.    

In support of Governor Roy Cooper’s Workforce Development Initiative and to promote more women in STEM-related fields, North Carolina Department of Administration’s (DOA) Secretary Machelle Sanders will visit and tour Pitt Community College’s Pharmaceutical Services Center and Walter & Marie Williams Science Center on Tuesday, July 24 from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m.
